60 Star Wars Trivia Questions and Answers That Separate the Padawans from the Masters

Audience wearing 3D glasses enjoying a movie in a cinema with popcorn.

The person who designed the sound of a TIE fighter blended an elephant’s scream with a car driving on wet pavement. That’s the kind of detail that separates people who love Star Wars from people who’ve memorized Star Wars. I’ve run trivia nights where someone could recite the entire opening crawl of The Empire Strikes Back from memory but couldn’t name the planet where Luke trained with Yoda without hesitating. Confidence is the real enemy in Star Wars trivia. Everyone thinks they know this franchise. Most people know about 60% of it and fill in the rest with vibes.

These 60 star wars trivia questions and answers are built from years of watching rooms full of fans get things wrong in very specific, very entertaining ways. I’ve arranged them with intention. Some will feel like gimmes. Some will make you argue with yourself. And a few near the end might genuinely make you reconsider how well you know a galaxy far, far away.

The Ones You Think You Know

1. What is the name of Han Solo’s ship?

I start every Star Wars round with a question like this. Not because it’s interesting, but because it gets people’s pens moving and their confidence up. Which makes the fall later that much more satisfying.

Show Answer
The Millennium Falcon

2. What color is Mace Windu’s lightsaber?

Samuel L. Jackson asked George Lucas for a purple lightsaber so he could find himself in the massive battle scene on Geonosis. Lucas said yes. Sometimes being a movie star is just asking for things.

Show Answer
Purple

3. Who is Luke Skywalker’s twin sister?

The number of people who answer “Padmé” in a noisy bar is higher than you’d think. Alcohol does things to family trees.

Show Answer
Princess Leia Organa
Common wrong answer: Padmé Amidala (their mother, not Luke’s twin)

4. What planet does Luke Skywalker grow up on?

Two suns, one moisture farm, zero nightlife. Tatooine is probably the most recognizable fictional planet in cinema, and yet I’ve watched people second-guess themselves into saying Jakku.

Show Answer
Tatooine

5. Who said “Do or do not. There is no try”?

Everyone gets this right. But ask them which movie it’s from, and you’ll see hesitation creep in.

Show Answer
Yoda (in The Empire Strikes Back)

6. What is the weapon of a Jedi Knight?

If someone answers “the Force,” you give them a look. You don’t give them the point.

Show Answer
A lightsaber

7. Who shot first in the Mos Eisley cantina: Han Solo or Greedo?

In the original 1977 theatrical cut, Han shoots first. Period. Every edit since has tried to soften that, and every edit since has started a fight. I once watched two friends nearly come to blows over this at a bar in Austin. The question isn’t really about who shot first. It’s about who you think Han Solo is.

Show Answer
Han Solo (in the original theatrical release)

8. What species is Chewbacca?

Show Answer
Wookiee

9. In A New Hope, what is the designation of the cell block where Princess Leia is held?

This is the first question where casual fans start blinking. “Detention Block AA-23” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue unless you’ve watched that rescue scene a hundred times. And some people have.

Show Answer
Detention Block AA-23

10. What is the name of Boba Fett’s ship?

Lucasfilm officially renamed it “Firespray” in recent years, which went over about as well as you’d expect. In a trivia setting, I accept both, but the original name is what I’m looking for.

Show Answer
Slave I (also now referred to as Firespray)

Where Confidence Starts to Crack

11. What planet is the Jedi Temple located on?

Show Answer
Coruscant

12. Who killed Han Solo?

The gasp in the theater when this happened. I still remember it. Nobody gasps at trivia night, but I’ve seen people write the answer and then just stare at it for a second.

Show Answer
Kylo Ren (Ben Solo), his son

13. What is the name of the planet-destroying weapon in A New Hope?

Show Answer
The Death Star

14. What is the Resistance’s planet-destroying target in The Force Awakens?

Not the Death Star. The bigger one. I ask this right after question 13 because people’s brains are already in “Death Star” mode and they have to swerve.

Show Answer
Starkiller Base

15. Who is the original owner of the lightsaber that calls to Rey in Maz Kanata’s castle?

People split on this one. It was Luke’s, sure. But before that?

Show Answer
Anakin Skywalker
Common wrong answer: Luke Skywalker (he inherited it, but Anakin built it)

16. What bounty hunter captures Han Solo for Jabba the Hutt?

Show Answer
Boba Fett

17. What is Finn’s stormtrooper designation?

This one plays well because people either know it instantly or they have absolutely nothing. There’s no middle ground with stormtrooper numbers.

Show Answer
FN-2187

18. In The Phantom Menace, who is elected Queen of Naboo?

Yes, elected. She’s 14. The politics of Naboo don’t hold up under scrutiny, but trivia doesn’t care about that.

Show Answer
Padmé Amidala

19. What does AT-AT stand for?

I love this question because everyone knows what an AT-AT looks like but half the room can’t unpack the acronym. You can see lips moving.

Show Answer
All Terrain Armored Transport

20. Who trained Obi-Wan Kenobi as a Jedi?

Show Answer
Qui-Gon Jinn

21. What is the name of the forest moon where the second Death Star’s shield generator is located?

Technically it’s the forest moon of Endor. The planet and the moon share the name in most usage, and I’m not going to be the person who marks someone wrong for saying “Endor” without the qualifier. Life’s too short.

Show Answer
Endor (the forest moon of Endor)

22. What material is Han Solo frozen in?

Show Answer
Carbonite

23. What is the name of the cantina band in A New Hope?

Their genre of music is called “jizz.” I’m not making that up. It’s official Star Wars canon. The room always loses it when I mention this after reading the answer.

Show Answer
Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes (also accepted: the Cantina Band)

24. How old is Yoda when he dies in Return of the Jedi?

Show Answer
900 years old

25. What is Count Dooku’s Sith name?

This is where prequel knowledge gets tested. People who only watch the original trilogy tend to just write “Dooku” and hope for the best.

Show Answer
Darth Tyranus

The Middle Stretch Where Scores Separate

26. What actor provides the voice of Darth Vader?

James Earl Jones voiced him. David Prowse wore the suit. For years, Prowse didn’t know his voice would be replaced. That’s Hollywood for you.

Show Answer
James Earl Jones
Common wrong answer: David Prowse (who physically played Vader but was dubbed over)

27. What is the name of Kylo Ren’s mother?

Show Answer
Leia Organa

28. In which film does Yoda first appear?

People who grew up with the prequels sometimes say The Phantom Menace. He’s in that one too. But the original appearance is what I’m after.

Show Answer
The Empire Strikes Back (1980)

29. What is the name of the system of caves on Dagobah where Luke faces a vision of Darth Vader?

Show Answer
The Cave of Evil (also called the Dark Side Cave)

30. Who directed The Empire Strikes Back?

Not George Lucas. This is one of my favorite questions because the confidence with which people say “George Lucas” is almost beautiful. He produced it and co-wrote the story. But he handed the director’s chair over.

Show Answer
Irvin Kershner
Common wrong answer: George Lucas (he directed only A New Hope among the original trilogy)

31. What is the Wookiee home planet called?

Show Answer
Kashyyyk

32. What creature lives in the garbage compactor on the Death Star?

Most people remember the scene. The tentacle, the murky water, Luke getting pulled under. But the name of the thing? That separates the fans from the scholars.

Show Answer
A dianoga

33. Which Star Wars film has the subtitle “Attack of the Clones”?

Show Answer
Episode II

34. What is the name of Jango Fett’s home planet, which also serves as the cloning facility?

Show Answer
Kamino

35. In Return of the Jedi, who reveals to Luke that there is “another Skywalker”?

Show Answer
Yoda (on his deathbed on Dagobah)

36. What is the name of the protocol droid who accompanies R2-D2?

Show Answer
C-3PO

37. Who composed the music for all nine Skywalker Saga films?

There are certain people in Hollywood who are so good at what they do that the question almost answers itself. And yet I’ve seen people write “Hans Zimmer” with total conviction.

Show Answer
John Williams

38. What is the tragic order that triggers the clone troopers to turn on the Jedi?

Show Answer
Order 66

39. In Rogue One, what is the name of the lead character who steals the Death Star plans?

This film came out in 2016 and I’ve already noticed people starting to forget the character’s name. Give it another decade and this becomes a hard question.

Show Answer
Jyn Erso

40. What is the name of Han and Leia’s son?

Show Answer
Ben Solo (who becomes Kylo Ren)

Now It Gets Personal

41. What was the original title of Return of the Jedi before it was changed?

“Revenge of the Jedi” made it all the way to teaser posters before Lucas changed it, reasoning that Jedi don’t seek revenge. Years later he used “Revenge” for the Sith instead. Those original posters are worth a small fortune now.

Show Answer
Revenge of the Jedi

42. What kind of creature does Obi-Wan ride while chasing General Grievous on Utapau?

Show Answer
A varactyl (named Boga)

43. How many engines does an X-wing starfighter have?

The name gives it away if you think about it. Four engines, four wings in attack position forming an X. But under time pressure, people second-guess the obvious answer constantly.

Show Answer
Four

44. Who plays the young Anakin Skywalker in The Phantom Menace?

Jake Lloyd. He was nine years old. The backlash he received from fans is one of the darker chapters in the Star Wars fandom’s history, and I always take a moment to mention that when I read this answer aloud.

Show Answer
Jake Lloyd

45. What is the highest rank in the Sith tradition, limited to only two practitioners at any time?

The Rule of Two: one master, one apprentice. Always two there are. The question is really asking people to name the rule, and most can describe it without knowing what it’s called.

Show Answer
The Rule of Two (a master and an apprentice)

46. In The Last Jedi, what color is the milk Luke drinks on Ahch-To?

Green. From a thala-siren. Directly from the source. Mark Hamill’s face during that scene tells you everything about how he felt about the direction of his character. This question always gets groans of recognition.

Show Answer
Green

47. What is the name of Anakin Skywalker’s mother?

Show Answer
Shmi Skywalker

48. Which planet is destroyed by the Death Star as a demonstration of its power in A New Hope?

Show Answer
Alderaan

49. What species is Jabba the Hutt?

The answer is right there in the name and people still overthink it.

Show Answer
A Hutt

50. In the original trilogy, who tells Luke “I am your father”?

Here’s the thing. The actual line is “No, I am your father.” Not “Luke, I am your father.” This is one of the most misquoted lines in movie history, and bringing that up after the answer creates a beautiful moment of collective disbelief. I’ve seen people pull out their phones to verify it on the spot.

Show Answer
Darth Vader (and the actual quote is “No, I am your father”)

The Deep End

51. What is the name of the planet where Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi have their climactic duel in Revenge of the Sith?

Show Answer
Mustafar

52. What actor played Grand Moff Tarkin in A New Hope?

Peter Cushing. A horror legend. He found his boots so uncomfortable during filming that he wore slippers in most of his scenes, and they just shot him from the knees up. The Empire’s most intimidating officer, padding around in slippers.

Show Answer
Peter Cushing

53. What is the real name of the Emperor?

Show Answer
Sheev Palpatine
Common wrong answer: just “Palpatine” or “Darth Sidious” (Sidious is his Sith title, not his birth name; full credit for “Sheev Palpatine”)

54. In Solo: A Star Wars Story, what is the name of the criminal syndicate led by Dryden Vos?

This film underperformed at the box office, and these questions are already becoming niche. In five years, this will be a genuinely hard question at any table.

Show Answer
Crimson Dawn

55. What type of crystal powers a lightsaber?

Show Answer
A kyber crystal

56. Who played Lando Calrissian in the original trilogy?

Show Answer
Billy Dee Williams

57. What was the first Star Wars movie to be released in theaters?

This trips up younger fans who think chronologically. Episode IV came first. It was just called Star Wars in 1977. The “Episode IV: A New Hope” subtitle wasn’t added until the 1981 re-release.

Show Answer
Star Wars (1977), later subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope

58. What is the name of the droid that BB-8 encounters on the First Order’s Star Destroyer in The Rise of Skywalker, who is a former First Order droid turned Resistance spy?

Show Answer
D-O
Note: Some may also think of the spy concept with General Hux; D-O is the small cone-shaped droid who befriends BB-8.

59. In Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine tells Anakin the story of a Sith Lord who could influence the midi-chlorians to create life. What was that Sith Lord’s name?

“Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise?” That scene in the opera house is one of the best-acted moments in the entire prequel trilogy. Ian McDiarmid is doing something genuinely unsettling there, and the memes have unfortunately made people forget how good the scene actually is.

Show Answer
Darth Plagueis the Wise

60. In the final scene of The Rise of Skywalker, when a stranger on Tatooine asks Rey her family name, what does she answer?

She looks across the sand and sees the Force ghosts of Luke and Leia. And she says “Skywalker.” Born a Palpatine, chose to be a Skywalker. Whether you think that moment earned itself or not probably says more about your relationship with the sequel trilogy than any other question could. I’ve ended Star Wars rounds on this question twice, and both times the room went quiet for just a second before someone either nodded or shook their head. That’s the thing about Star Wars. After all the lightsabers and space battles and lore debates, it always comes back to names, and who gets to claim them, and what they carry.

Show Answer
“Skywalker” (Rey Skywalker)
